Alicia Gutierrez, HHS Agriculture Teacher, has been chosen to serve on the Arizona Game and Fish Department's Teacher Advisory Committee. Quarterly meetings are held to discuss and evaluate the Department's role in formal education and look at current and future programs and resources. This will lead to providing more educational resources about Arizona wildlife. Congratulations!!

HHS Business students competed at the Mayor's Finance Challenge sponsored by the Arizona Council on Economic Education (ACEE). Hamilton's Team won 4th Place. Team members include: Matthew Kosednar, Hailey Kotkin, Manyta Parmar, and Rachel Mahkovec. Rachel also tied for 1st Place in the State for her individual score! Congratulations to all!

HHS Culinary Students under the instruction of Craig Chaney and Michael Turcotte participated in the 2nd Annual Taste of Championship at the Phoenix Convention Center. They prepared the only dessert of Lemon Ginger Panna Cotta with Raspberry Coulis and Blueberry Crumble. This was highly praised in the AZ Republic Article on this event. Congratulations!

HHS Ag student Kara Linder is a competitive Fencer and was interviewed at the USA Fencing Division I Championships in Las Vegas. Kara is very successful in the physically demanding sport and attributes part of this success to her participation in the HHS Ag Program balancing her busy schedule for fencing with her academic grades and still finds time to work in the HHS Greenhouse with her plants and chickens. HHS Architectural students competed in the National LEED Dream Home Design Contest. Each student designed custom homes featuring the latest in sustainable technology. Culinary Arts Teacher, Craig Chaney, and senior Ashley Allen were invited as speakers at the Sun Lakes Rotary Club Meeting on August 6, 2013. Mr. Chaney expressed gratitude for the continuous support of HHS Interact Club Members. Ashley Allen was chosen as a delegate to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA). RYLA is an all-expenses-paid seminar, camp and workshop to learn advanced leadership skills. Ashley expressed that she learned to exceed her own understanding about how strong she really is and expressed her excitement about serving the Chandler Community.

Mark Mauritzen, HHS senior, received a silver pin after competing in the Agriscience Fair with his experimental project, 'Rooting for Success.' Mark tested different concentrations of rooting hormone on geranium cuttings. The fair was held at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN.

Hamilton FFA was recognized as a silver national chapter led by Brook Daley and the 2011 Officer Team. Mark Mauritzen was the winning recipient of the botany category with his project 'Rooting for Success.' Mark was also presented with his own FFA jacket after reading an essay entitled 'What the FFA Jacket means to Me.'
