Dear Shumway Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back to the 2012-2013 academic year!!  Our goal is to challenge your children intellectually, socially and guide them toward independent thinking and problem solving.  As we strive to promote healthy development we also strive to develop students of good character; students who make good choices and decisions resulting in successful and healthy outcomes.  We encourage students to demonstrate their best on a daily basis and to make positive contributions to the students and teachers in their classrooms and when possible towards other students and staff.  We hope that all students will take pride in the fact that they are Shumway Stars!!

This year we invite you to support our school by participating in our 2 Hour Power program.  This can be accomplished by volunteering at least 2 hours of your time in an area of interest that works for your schedule.  Please complete the Interest Survey & Pledge form that you will soon receive and have your child return it to their teacher.  You will be contacted about opportunities that fit your interests and availability. 

Open communication and feedback is essential to the success of our school. In addition to Site Council and PTO meetings, I encourage you to contact me if you would like to discuss or share ideas about areas that you think are successful and should be continued or areas that need to improve and are in need of our attention.  You can contact me by calling my direct line – (480)812-7408 or by calling me on my cell phone – (480)305-4890.  If you would like to meet with me I am available while school is in session, prior to the start of the school day and after school.  I will also accommodate your work schedule by meeting with you in the early evening.  Please call or e-mail me to set-up an appointment.

During the school year we will communicate with you through our weekly newsletters, notes home and e-mail.  If you are new to our school or have not been receiving “E-NEWS from SHUMWAY” please send me an e-mail and we will make sure that you receive our e-news announcements and updates.  My e-mail address is londer.gary@cusd80.com.

I am excited to work with all of our returning Shumway Stars and to get to know our new-to-Shumway Stars.  Great things will take place at Shumway again this year.
