Hello! My name is Bonnie Walker and I am honored to be a Tarwater Fourth Grade teacher.
My Education and Professional Background
My teaching career began at Andersen Elementary School in Chandler where I taught General Music for thirteen years. In 1998, I transferred to a brand new school in Chandler. What school do you think that was? You guessed it…Tarwater! I taught general music for two years and then transferred into the regular classroom as a fourth grade teacher. I've been a classroom teacher since 2000. In 2015, I became Tarwater's Media Specialist and for the 2016 school year, I am back in the fourth grade classroom! I attended ASU and received my undergraduate degree in Secondary Education with a Music Endorsement and in 1999 I added an Elementary Education degree and an SEI - ELL endorsement to my teaching certificate. My most recent degree is a Master's in Education from NAU in Curriculum and Instruction. In 2015, I received a Media Specialist endorsement.
My Educational Philosophy
As an educator, I have lived by the mantra, "Never underestimate the ability of a child." Kids can do amazing things; especially when you get out of their way and allow them to flourish. Innovation and humor seems to be the best catalyst to create an environment where students learn and achieve!
